Over at The Alt, William Belcher lists Golden Delicious among “Nine books you may have missed in 2016.” “I heard Boucher read from the work in May,” Belcher writes, “and both scenes he read have stuck with me for months.” Thanks so much, Bill!
Emily St. John Mandel’s “A Year in Reading”
December 12, 2016
I’m very grateful to Emily St. John Mandel, one of my favorite contemporary writers, for her kind words about Golden Delicious in her post for The Millions’s “A Year in Reading 2016.” Emily reviewed HTKYVA in 2011, and says that Golden Delicious is “infused with the same strange brilliance.” Please click here to read the full post.

Boston Book Festival 2016
October 17, 2016
I had so much fun at this weekend’s Boston Book Festival, where I was invited to join Alexandra Kleeman, Liz Moore, and Henriette Lazaridis for a panel called “Reading Like a Writer: Experimentation.” If you missed that event, an audio archive is available here.
Hollihock Writer’s Conference
August 31, 2016
Last Sunday, I drove down to New Bedford to deliver the closing keynote address at the Hollihock Writer’s Conference. If you’re not familiar with this conference (now in its second year), I’d recommend checking it out. Organized by Somerville writer Dominic Perri, this year’s conference featured three days of panels, classes and lectures. I spoke on the theme of “what scares us,” and stayed afterwards to sign books and attend a reception at the fantastic New Bedford Writer Studios.

It’s not every day that you get to trade emails with one of your favorite working fiction writers. Earlier this summer, though, the great Adam Novy – author of The Avian Gospels – was kind enough to interview me about Golden Delicious for an interview that appeared earlier this week on Hobart. If you’re not familiar with Hobart, please check it out – it’s been one of my favorite journals for a long time.

A few weeks back, the Melville House Book Group (which meets at the wonderful Brooklyn Roasting Company) was kind enough to select Golden Delicious to read and discuss. What’s more, the group sent along some great questions about the book, the answers to which you can see here. Thanks so much to the MHBG for selecting Golden Delicious, and to Melville House Manager of Direct Sales and Library Marketing Chad Felix for organizing this interview.
I Am a Failure
August 4, 2016
A few months back, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Mark Polanzak for an interview for The Fail Safe, a new podcast produced by Mark, Rachel Yoder, draft: The Journal of Process and the Iowa Writers’ House. That podcast is now available – please click the link below to hear it.
In Order of Importance

Thanks so much to Porter Square Books’ Josh Cook (whose fantastic debut novel, An Exaggerated Murder, was published by Melville House last year) for including Golden Delicious in his analysis of three new books that Josh says signal a new phase in postmodernism. These books, Josh writes, exemplify “Derrida’s idea of the motion and tension among the various elements of existence once the assumed centrality of humanity is removed.” Please click here to read the full post.
